Hope’s Mc Intosh takes a pair; Rams’ Salisbury wins 1500

3 May – – The North Kingstown girls downed La Salle, 67-63.5, while it was Hendricken taking the boys’ team prize on Saturday at the annual Rick Schomp Invitational, held at the Coventry High track. The Hawks outpointed a strong East Providence squad, 86-81 for the boys’ title.
Barrington junior Bobby Colantonio claimed his second straight Schomp hammer prize, throwing the 12-pound ball 237 feet, 11 inches (72.51 meters). In the boys’ 1500 meters, La Salle junior superstar Jack Salisbury clocked 3:57.3 in a race dominated by the Rams, who took the first four places. Hope High senior Quashira “Q” Mc Intosh broke a pair of meet marks in the 100 and 200 meters. “Q” went 11.7 to win the 100, and clocked 25.0 in taking the 200 meters.
In the boys’ 3000, the Hawks went 1-2-3, led by junior Dom Parlato’s 9:01.0 showing. South Kingstown sophomore Anthony Shepard won two events: long and triple jump, while Stephanie Mattson, a Smithfield senior, leaped 17-10.25 (5.44) to win the girls’ long jump event. Portsmouth’s Greta Scott, a senior, legged out a 59.2 to capture the girls’ 400 meters. Classicla senior Newell Roberts cleared 13 feet (3.96) to win the boys’ pole.
It was Classical’s Alva Hicks taking home her second straight Schomp title in the girls’ discus. On Saturday Hicks easily led the field with her toss of 132-3 (40.30). At last year’s Schomp meet, Hicks shattered the Rhode Island state discus record with a throw of 147-2 (44.85).
Katarina Ho, a Skipper sophomore, repeated as the Schomp’s 1500-meter champ; she clocked 4:40.9 to lead a loaded field that included La Salle’s Karina Tavares and Sheridan Wilbut, and Barrington junior Emma Mc Millan. Ho clipped three seconds off her winning time of a year ago.
