EAGLES’ KELLY, COLANTONIO ARE TOPS AT INTERNATIONAL HAMMER EVENT

10 May – – Barrington High junior Bobby Colantonio and Adam Kelly, the state’s power duo in the hammer events, were gold medalists on Saturday at the annual International Hammer Invitational at Conley Stadium.
Colantonio took the 5-kilo hammer throw with a meet-record toss of 256-6 (78.18 meters). In the 6-kilo event, it was the Eagle senior Adam Kelly with a winning throw of 230-4 (70.20). Kelly also aced the international weight (16-pound) hammer at 202-3 (61.65).
In the girls’ events Narragansett High’s Makena Thomas won twice. She threw 168-7 (51.38) to capture the 4-kilo hammer, and went 181-4 (55.28) to take the 3-kilo event.
