9 May – – The La Salle girls’ distance medley broke the Rhode Island state record in that event on the opening day of the three-day Glenn Loucks Games, held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at White Plains (N.Y.) High School’s track facility. The Ram foursome of senior Sheridan Wilbur, freshman Emily Kane and juniors Karina Tavares and Eliza Rego clocked 11:57.15 for fourth place; currently ranked 11th nationally.
Wilbur’s leadoff 1200-meter leg was timed in 3:39.2, while Kane went 1:02.7 for the quarter leg. Tavarres’ 800-meter split was 2:21.0. Rego ran the 1600-meter anchor leg in 4:54.2. The previous DMR record was 11:58.61, which was also set by a La Salle relay in 2013. (Rego and Wilbur ran legs on that race, run at the New Balance Nationals in North Carolina – also placing fourth.)
In the girls’ 2000-meter steeplechase on Saturday, East Greenwich senior Margaret Mc Caffrey finished eighth in a new R.I. state record. Her time was 7:29.36, which topped the existing mark of 7:33.85, set at this meet two years ago. In Saturday’s preliminaries, Mc Caffrey won her section with what would be her best time.
Hope High senior Quashira “Q” Mc Intosh blazed to a winning time of 24.45 seconds in the 200 meters. “Q” beat the runnerup, Suffern’s Imani Solan, by 16 1/100 of a second.
La Salle’s Wilbur entered the 3200-meter run and placed third in 10:37.22 (= 9:53.5 @ 3000 meters.) Barrington’s Emma Mc Millan finished fourth in that race (10:38.08/= 9:54.9.) In the boys’ 3200, La Salle’s Jack Salisbury clocked 8:56.55 (= 8:19.5 @ 3000 meters) for eighth place. Also on Friday, Mc Intosh went 12.16 to finish fifth in the 100 meters.
