The Central High boys’ 4×400 relay set a new R.I. state record on Saturday. Running at the Ocean Breeze Invitational meet in New York, the Knights clocked 3 minutes, 22.48 seconds while placing second. Junior Donatien Djero – the state’s defending 300-meter champ – helped power the Central foursome on Saturday with his negative split of 49.4 on the anchor leg. The Knights’ time eliminated the standard of 3:24.12 set by Bishop Hendricken (Alex Perreault, Ryan Brannigan, Andy Sakovits and John Ferris) at the 2011 New Balance Championship at the Armory Track Center in Manhattan.
Doing the honors for the Knights and their splits: Juniors Austin Wolo (50.4) and Dametrius O’Connor (50.9); Anthony Vega (51.8) and Djero (49.4).
