15 May – – The 2016 version of the annual Classical Classic had a new look on Saturday: a non-scoring meet, in which the two categories of competition changed from Large and Small Schools to Championship and Emerging events (reminiscent of the New Balance National Championship format that includes an “Emerging Elite’’ category.)
But Saturday’s “Classic’’, held at Conley Stadium, featured one constant: Barrington High’s Bobby Colantonio continued his march toward the state record in the 12-pound hammer. The Eagle senior won the event with a throw of 251 feet, 2 inches (76.55 meters). The state record, set in 1999 by Hendricken’s Jacob Freeman, stands at 253-3 (77.20).
In the Championship 1500, North Kingstown freshman Sam Toolin clocked a winning 3:39.3, while Central High’s Austin Wolo was a double winner, taking the 200 and 400 meters.
