R.I. Track & Field Foundation
8 Oct. – – North Kingstown’s super sophomore Sam Toolin traveled to Manchester, Conn. On Saturday for the annual cross country invitational at Wickham Park. And the hard-running Skipper star walked off with the gold medal. Running at a 5:07 pace in the boys’ Championship Division run, Toolin clocked a winning 15 minutes, 52 seconds in a field of 105 runners. Second-place finisher Drew Thompson, of Fairfield Prep High, crossed the line in 15:55. East Greenwich’s Jackson Cronin was the next R.I. finisher, clocking in at 17 minutes for 11th spot.
In the girls’ Championship event at Wickham, North Kingstown sophomore Lily Nunnery placed 12th in 20:18. Avenger Katie Braman finished 16th (20:25).
Rams’ dos Reis, Connolly lead the locals at Manhattan
At Van Cortlandt Park, New York City, La Salle’s Grace Connolly and Joe dos Reis were the top Rhode Islanders in key races. In the 2.5-mile Eastern States Championship, Connolly, a junior, placed 22nd with a time of 15:24. In the boys’ Varsity “A” event, dos Reis finished 18h in 13:30. Hendricken’s Jordan Dagrin was No. 6 in the boys’ Varsity “G” race (13:23).
