R.I. Track & Field Foundation
20 Sept. (MEDIA NOTE – – As a foundation enroute to building stellar seasons in cross country and track last year, North Kingstown’s Sam Toolin dominated the freshman field at the 2015 Ocean State Cross Country Invitational. The Skipper standout turned in a winning time of 12:53 to handily win the Freshman II race. He went on to post an undefeated dual-meet record, and a coaches all-state first-team berth off the State Championship (fourth place).
Now a sophomore, Toolin is expected to return to the Goddard Park course, but in a different competitive setting. Randi Burr, now a Westerly High School junior, won gold last year in the Varsity I event. Burr clocked 19:14. She was third in the state last November at Ponaganset.
Approximately 5,000 teams, among middle and high schools, are expected to compete over the two-day event. Rhode Island high schools entered:
GIRLS: Chariho; Coventry; Cr. East; E. Greenwich; Lincoln; N. Kingstown; Prout; St. Raphael; Toll Gate; Westerly; Wheeler.
BOYS: Cumberland; Coventry; Chariho; Mt. Hope; St. Raphael; Toll Gate; Moses Brown; E. Greenwich; Smithfield; W. Warwick; Westerly; Wheeler.
Course Note: Also on Saturday, the annual Manchester Invitational will be held at Derryfield Park, Manchester, N.H.
