3 Feb. – – Cumberland and North Kingstown far outpaced their respective divisions Tuesday night in the first of two divisional championships for boys at PCTA’s track. (The Metro and Suburban meets go off tonight.)
The Clippers, with senior Sean Laverty posting a double win, tallied 142 points. Laverty clocked 4:07.66 to take the 1500 meters, and 2:39.26 for the gold in the 1000. The Clippers also captured two relays. In the 4×800, Jim Haupt, Will Mardo, Kyle Sheridan and Laverty combined for a time of 8:23.54. The Clipper 4×200 went 1:35.77, with Chase Cravenm Mike Kwara, Jerome Evans and Dave Lazemberry doing the honors.
It was North Kingstown all the way in the Southern Division meet. Skipper freshman Sam Toolin posted a winning time of 4:09.72 in the 1500 meters, while teammate Nick Musumeco went 9:25.06 in the 3000. North freshman Jack Perreault took the 600 in 1:29.43, while the Skippers’ Randol Denney clocked 37.50 to win the 300. Ethan Wyllie, a junior from North Kingstown, won the 1000 in 2:41.66. Senior Steve Cirella added 20 points to the Skipper total with wins in the long jump and shot. South Kingstown junior Anthony Shepard clocked 6.72 to win the dash.
