MEDIA NOTE – – Listed are the Rhode Island entries to the New Balance National Scholastic Championships, slated for June 17, 18, 19 at the Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
Returnees: Last year, Toll Gate’s Courtney Jacobsen earned All-American honors by placing fourth in the championship 4-kilo hammer; Smithfield’s Meagan Malloy came in 10th . . . Barrington’s Bobby Colantonio was All-American in the 5.44-kilo boys’ hammer, finishing second; Jared Briere, of Woonsocket, also made All-American in that event, placing sixth . . . La Salle’s DJ Principe was a 2015 All-American on the strength of his fifth-place showing in the championship 5000 meters. He set a new R.I. record in that event with a time of 14:42.91 . . . Principe teammate Jack Salisbury was All-American in the two mile . . . Classical’s May Stern placed 16th in the “Emerging Elite’’ 400 meters . . . North Kingstown’s Beth Nunnery finished fourth in the “EE’’ two-mile run . . . Cumberland’s Sean Laverty was seventh in the “EE’’ mile . . . In the championship javelin, Alyssa Colbert, of Smithfield, placed 18th overall.
Oval Notes: On June 17 at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Mass., La Salle’s Salisbury will appear in a “Dream Mile’’ event at the addidas Boost Boston Games. Salisbury, a three-time R.I. 1500-meter champ, will face Mike Rarcliffe, a senior from Concord-Carlisle, Mass. Ratcliffe recently set a New England record for 1500 meters (4:01.50) and is No. 1 U.S.-ranked in the two mile . . . On Saturday, June 18 in the Seattle, Wash. suburb of Renton, the Rams’ Matt Bouthillette will join a 15-man field in the Brooks PR invitational two mile.
