9 Feb. – – Four La Salle Academy distance runners will compete this Sunday (14 Feb.) at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix junior mile event on the banked Reggie Lewis Center track in Roxbury. Each race will field 12 runners from around the country.
Senior Eliza Rego is in the girls’ mile. The Harvard-bound Rego is defending 1000 and 1500-meter state champ, and holds the R.I. indoor mark in the latter race (4:34.30). She won the 2015 New England Championship mile in a meet-record 4:52.83, and was third in the Dartmouth Invitational mile last month in 5:02.54.
La Salle’s top three distance aces will toe the line for the boys’ junior mile. Senior Jack Salisbury is currently ranked second in the country in the prep 1500 (4:00.49), and placed second in the Grand Prix mile last year. Matt Bouthillette, another senior, is defending New England indoor mile champ at 4:17.25. Junior David “DJ’’ Principe finished second in that New England race (4:17.77), and is defending state 3000-meter titlist.
