27 Sept. – – La Salle junior DJ Principe on Saturday won the boys’ Varsity II event at the annual Bowdoin Park Classic, held at Wappingers Falls, N.Y. Teammate Matt Bouthillette finished second. Principe, Rhode Island’s defending cross country champ, clocked 15:44.99, the fastest time posted at the multi-event Classic. He led his team to a second place finish in team standings.
At the Manchester Invitational on Saturday, meanwhile, Hendricken took the Large Division team title with 53 points, led by senior Dominic Parlato’s fourth-place finish (16:03). Parlato was fifth in the state last year. Also at Derryfield Park, senior Avery Ingegneri was next for the Hawks; he placed fifth, also in a recorded time of 16:03.
The Hawks also captured the JV and Freshman titles in Manchester. The JV team was led by Matt Wilks’ 2nd place finish. The freshman team was led by Nick Braz’s 3rd place finish.
At Wappingers Falls, La Salle’s Bouthillette, a first-team coaches all-stater last year (he placed fourth at Ponaganset), hit the tape on Saturday in 15:59. East Greenwich was also represented among the top 10 finishers. Junior Jackson Cronin finished sixth in 17:03.
La Salle’s Connor O’Mara won the boys’ JV II event in 17:53. The Rams won the team title in that race.
