24 Dec. – – La Salle, the defending girls’ state team champs, garnered the highest vote total in the first of three indoor polls, conducted by the R.I. Track & Field Foundation. The Rams received all 11 first-place ballots, gathering 110 total points. Classical, last year’s state runner-up, got 95 votes to place second. North Kingstown (72), Cranston West (56) and Cumberland rounded out the top five teams in this month’s survey.
In the poll of boys’ coaches La Salle topped the list, 107 points to second-place Hendricken’s 101. The Rams collected nine first place votes, to a pair for the Hawks two. Barrington’s 72 points was good for third spot, with Cumberland (70) and the Skippers fourth and fifth places, respectively.
The next RIT&FF poll will be on 27 Jan.
