16 May – – East Providence won team honors in the Large Schools Division, and Classical handily took the Small Schools trophy at Saturday’s Classical Classic for boys at Conley Stadium, Providence. The Townies out-pointed second-place Barrington 94.5 to 91.
In the Large Schools hammer, Barrington High junior Bobby Colantonio threw the 5.44-kilo ball 243 feet, 7 inches (74.24 meters). Central High sophomore Donatien Djero won the 100 and 200 dashes in the Large Schools meet. In the Small Schools division, Classical senior Newell Roberts cleared 13-6 (4.11) to win the pole vault.
